UPS's inputs are package information, customer signature. pickup,
delivery and timecard data, data location, billing and customer clearance
documentation.UPS process is by transmitting data onto the central network.
DIAD is placed by the driver into the UPS truck's vehicle adapter then the
package information is then transmitted to the UPS's network for storage and
processing in the main computers. The information can be accessed worldwiide as
a proof of delivery of the package to the customers.
Question 2:
Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) and bar code
scanning are the technology used to keep track of the shipment of the packages.
UPS also handles internet orders, laptop repairs and x-ray machine
installation.
Question 3:
UPS business strategy is to provide the best service through lower
price offered, price leader. By using the technologies mentioned, it is
guaranteed that the business strategy will be achieved through best
service.
Loyalty and trusted are values embbeded through the technologies
used by the company. UPS and the customers can track the packages during the
process of delivery through the automated package tracking system. Even with
the technology used, UPS still manage to offer lower price to the services.
Question 4:
If UPS is not using technologies in the business, UPS and the
customers would have the difficulty to track the delivery process of the
packages. Without the usage of the technology, it would be difficult and harder
for UPS to track the packages and it would be hard for UPS to be a price leader
company and to be trusted and to have customers' loyalty.
